Day 2

What's your word count? Are you off to a good start?

  1. Okay folks, I may have said no rules, but I'd *highly recommend* not deleting or editing what you're writing as you write.

The goal is to write 50K new words. You can always edit them later, in June. But you can't edit a blank page!

We're not writing perfect, finished and polished manuscripts in a month. We're writing a first draft in a month :) Let it get a little messy and clean it up later, LOL!!

  2. I wo't be doing any writing until tonight - busy day in the office, with my staff back from a trade show. So no sneaking in sections today for me. I did manage to draft a couple of blog posts, too bad they don't count! lol

  4. @Gianna--I'm totally counting certain blog posts (book reviews), but that's a big part of my may goal :)

Yesterday I only got like 50 words, but I got 1350 this morning, and I'm gearing up for another push if the toddler would cooperate and nap.

  5. I hear ya about the toddler, LOL. I got 700 words written while mine napped, and I'm aiming for another 1k at least when he goes to bed tonight.

  6. Well, I only got 1100 today, but it's better than nothing.

  7. Considering I hadn't written any new words in almost a month before this, I'm ecstatic just to get back to writing everyday. It feels good to flex that part of my brain, LOL

I wrote 2630 words today for a grand total of 5500 words into my WIP. Yesterday I wrote the first chapter and today I wrote the second chapter!

I'm not doing any editing, I'm just plowing forward, but it feels tighter than the last NaNoWriMo that I did, probably because I've got a basic outline to follow.

And now I'm going to go read in bed :) G'night folks! Happy writing!

  8. I got about 1100 all together today - two scenes. I got a later start than I anticipated, typical Monday, plus still off my stride with this laptop. We'll see what tomorrow brings, with critique group looking to be a late night, I may get nothing done. I'm gonna shoot for some time at lunch and see what happens. Hopefully by the weekend, things will pick up a bit to. I tend to do very well on Fridays when the office is quiet. ;)

@Shoshanna, I know what you mean about feeling tighter, I can also feel a difference in the way the words are hitting the page. But it's not the outline, it's the actual wording, just feels cleaner.

  9. 2968 today, good progress but suddenly my characters have plunged off outline and into a period of drunken tomfoolery. I suspect there will be some regret on the morrow for at least one of them. Sigh.

  10. Awesome progress everyone. 2,137 in book reviews and 1,157 in my WIP for a total of 3,294 so far. I made up for my lack of words yesterday, which is AWESOME, but tomorrow is a busier day. Gonna try to get at least something tomorrow. I've done NaNoWriMo in the past with an outline, with extensive outlining and story boarding, and without anything at all. This is my first new WIP in a year and a half, and the first one that feels anywhere close to solid after four years of first chapters and false starts. (I have a four year old and a 9 month old. Go figure :)) I'm going completely without an outline this time, and it feels better (knock on wood) than anything I've attempted in four years of Mama Brain. Perhaps all the book reviews this year have knocked something into place.

  11. I wrote nothing. ARGH.

  12. MJ, I am now officially peer-pressuring you into writing *something* for Day 3! LOL

  13. Sadly, then life happened in a big way, I have written a few thousand more words, and there is no way I am coming anywhere close to the goal in the next 19 hours. But it's not slacking, I swear! Life imploded and I moved back home, 1500 miles. So, yeah! I'll have to make up for it next month!

  14. Sometimes sh*t happens, MJ, I understand. Good luck with your writing next month!

  15. Thanks! It should flow; just one month off from going with the crowd. Oh darn, such a solitary life I do lead XDDD
